About us

Stonegate Amateur Dramatic Society was formed in 2002 as part of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations.

The idea was to bring together the people of Stonegate at the Village Hall which was built by the men and women of the village over 60 years ago.

SADS has gone from strength to strength starting with two performances of Two and Two Make Sex and now performing eight shows with a public dress rehearsal catering for nearly 1,300 people at each production.

All profits from our productions go to a variety of local charities or charities that are special to locals, these include:

British Heart Foundation, Hospice in the Weald, Talking Books/Newspapers, St. Michael’s Hospice, Rwanda, Kent Air Ambulance, Macmillan Cancer Support, Teenage Cancer Trust,   Sussex Air Ambulance, Riding for the Disabled, Stonegate Church,   Down’s Syndrome Association, Carillon Cottage, Stonegate Village Hall, Pancreatic Cancer UK, Nourish (community food bank), Hawkhurst Cottage Hospital, The Red Cross, East Sussex Disability Association, Macmillan Cancer Care, Stonegate Primary School, Labrador Rescue Kent, Canine Partners, Music for the Memory, and Team Domenica.

Our naked calendar 2007 with ‘scenes’ from our productions was a huge hit raising £4,685 for Hospice in the Weald.

So now in our 20th year and the 27th production, our donations so far total £163,000.

Our October production of HMS Pinafore raised a staggering £10,000 for local charities, including

STONEGATE SCHOOL PTA, ST MICHAEL'S HOSPICE (St Leonards), THE NEWHAVEN AND SEAFORD SEA CADETS, PARKINSON'S UK, AND STONEGATE VILLAGE HALL.

More recently, SADS have added new curtains for the Hall as well as the main stage curtains and a brand new up-to-date digital lighting system.
